Right at the beginning of this episode, Janeway is mildly annoyed that she can’t get a decent cup of coffee. She’s then alerted to the presence of a nebula that maybe contains some material that will allow them a few luxuries. That’s the set up for this episode, the reason they explore this nebula is because Janeway wants a coffee.
